Sahara Smith の 1st「Myth of the Heart」(10) から " Are You Lonely " を私訳。歌詞を読むと観察眼の深い人だと思うし、この曲を21歳という年齢で発表しているのに驚きました。確かに彼女が好きなレナード・コーエンやトム・ウェイツの影響がその歌詞からは伺えるけど、彼女の場合は彼等よりも「自分は大勢の中のひとり」という意識が強い。そしてまた今回のような孤独をテーマにした歌詞は往々にして暗いメロディだったり、シングルカットされないアルバム収録曲としてはよく見かけるけど、こういう風にキャッチーなメロディに綴れるというのは彼女の才能の現れでしょうね。素晴らしい。
